How to move around
This guide shows you how to get from room to room, and what to do when the way is blocked.
See the ways out
Type look (or l). Below the room's description, the exits are listed:
There is a passage leading north.
There is a locked door leading east.
A note on the west wall says "Your exit here."
A note saying "Your exit here." isn't an exit yet. It's a place where someone can build one; see How to create a new room. Builders can describe their exits in their own words, so read the room's description too.
Go through an exit
Type the direction, or its first letter:
| Direction | Short |
|---|---|
north |
n |
south |
s |
east |
e |
west |
w |
up |
u |
down |
d |
go north works too.
Some exits have a name of their own, such as door or stairs. Type the
name as if it were a command: stairs. If the room's description
mentions a way out that isn't a direction, try its name.
You usually see the new room as you arrive. If you don't, type look.
To repeat your last command, type . (a period). That's handy for
walking along a corridor.
Get past a blocked exit
If you see "You can't go that way." or a message the builder wrote:
- You're hiding. You can't move while you're hiding. Type
revealfirst. - The exit needs a key. A locked door lets you through only while you
hold the right object. Look for it nearby,
getit, and try again. - The exit doesn't want what you're holding. Some exits are closed to
anyone carrying a certain object. Type
ito see what you hold, dropsomething, and try again. - The exit needs its name. Some exits ignore the direction and answer only to their name. Read the room's description for it.
- The exit opens and closes. Some exits are open only some of the time, or let people through only now and then. Wait a minute and try again.
- There's no exit at all. "There isn't an exit there yet." means that way has only a note saying "Your exit here."
Find a hidden exit
Some exits aren't shown until you find them. If a room seems to have no
way out, or the description hints at one, type search. You may need to
search several times. An exit you find stays shown until you leave the
game.

If you're stuck in a room with no way out, ask your admin, who can move you.
